LANARKSHIRE CAR CLUB MEMBERS FORMED THE BACKBONE OF THE WEST OF SCOTLAND TEAM WHICH WON THE 2008 INTER-ASSOCIATION RALLY CHALLENGE

The 3 car team representing the Association of West of Scotland Motor Sport Clubs triumphed on the annual Inter-Association Forth Bridges Rally on Saturday/Sunday 8/9 November beating teams from other Associations all over Great Britain and Ireland.

Starting and finishing in Port Edgar, South Queensferry, this year’s host association, ESACC, organised this National B navigational rally over around 180 miles of country roads in Midlothian and Fife. The event was run in atrociously wet weather conditions, the many downpours and flooded roads proving an additional challenge to crews.

Despite suffering an early puncture after hitting a deep pothole near Torphichen, the veteran LCC crew of Charles Brown (Killearn) and Neil Turner (Glasgow) limped home to 4th overall in their VW Lupo on a Spacesaver wheel and tyre, also clinching the Scottish Associations’ title with one round still to go.

They were ably supported by Monty Pearson (Duns) and Ewan Leeming (Lauder) who brought their VW Golf home in 5th and LCC President John Shanks (Longcroft) and LCC Member Peter Weall (Lenzie) who ended 6th in their Seat Ibiza.

This is the first time that the challenge has been won by a West of Scotland team and Lanarkshire Car Club is proud to have played a significant part in the victory.

Lanarkshire Car Club
Based in west central Scotland, Lanarkshire Car Club has been around for over 50 years and is active in several areas of Motorsport. We specialise in cheap Motorsport including Navigational Rallies on the roads, where the skill of the driver is matched by the brains of the navigator in finding answers to clues on the map, a wee bit like a special treasurehunt in a car.

Autotests run by us and by other clubs form a big part of the interest of our members, along with a group of dedicated marshals who travel to many of the big national stage rally events. Various other specialist events are advertised to our members via this website.
